The Cause

Sheen is dedicated to providing funds for worthy initiatives and different social issues throughout the world. As a promise from Sheen to you, a percentage of the proceedings from each piece sold are donated to the dedicated cause.

Ramadan 2020:
THE GLOBAL GIVING FUND:
Coronavirus Relief Fund

To celebrate the month of giving, Sheen will be donating 100% of proceeds from up to 10 selected jewelry pieces. Every 3 days, a new jewelry piece will be added to the campaign and will remain a part of it until stock lasts or the end of Ramadan only.

Normally, with every item of jewelry sold, a donation is made to one of the below mentioned charities. However, given the circumstances of the pandemic and it being the start of Ramadan, we wanted to do something more impactful by donating the entire sale to a very urgent cause.

The Global Giving Fund has many ongoing projects. We've decided to focus on Coronavirus Relief Fund, under which are many international charities worldwide, reaching remote areas in countries like Syria, Palestine, Bangladesh and Philippines, just to name a few. They are made accessible through vetted GlobalGiving partners (local foundations). Some of their efforts include patient recovery, virus prevention education and even distribution of food, as the economic impact of Covid-19 also has had drastic effects on peoples' basic needs.

UNHCR: THE ROHINGYA EMERGENCY

According to the UN:Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) over 1.2 million Rohingya people have fled from persecution in Myanmar to Bangladesh. The government of Myanmar sees this ethnic minority as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and denies them citizenship. It doesn’t even recognize them as people!

According to an article on BBC, at least 6,700 people have been killed, countless women and girls raped, and villages destroyed. It is considered the “world’s fastest growing refugee crisis”.

The people that have managed to flee have little to no belongings and the refugee camps have limited space. The UNHCR is currently providing food, shelter, clean water, medical and psychological help. Additional aid has been provided for the people during the rough Monsoon season (May-September 2018).

UNCHR: THE SYRIAN CRISIS

After months of conflict, millions of Syrians have fled the country to neighboring countries. The estimated number of refugees hits a large 4.8 million, with about 8.7 million predicted to be displaced in 2016 (UNHCR, November 7). thousands more crossing borders everyday. A lot of refugees have set up camp in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. The freezing cold weather has made living conditions unbearable for these innocent civilians who have barely anything to keep themselves warm. In desperate need of basic materials for survival, the UNHCR continues to pour in effort and resources to reach these innocent civilians in dire need to help. UNHCR is on the ground providing urgently needed relief to millions of Syrians, helping with cash for medicine and food, stoves and fuel for heating, insulation for tents, thermal blankets and winter clothing as the bitter winter sets in.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), started in 1950, is an agency that protects refugees by safeguarding their rights and well-being. “In more than six decades, the agency has helped tens of millions of people restart their lives. Today, a staff of some 7,685 people in more than 125 countries continues to help some 33.9 million persons.”

DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS (OR MSF)

MSF or better known as Doctors without Borders, was the first organization we sent our proceeds to. This NGO is well-known for their efforts globally and has even won a Noble Peace Prize in 1999. Reaching villages and towns throughout the world where people are affected by life-threatening diseases or by political instability, they have cured and improved the health of millions of people.

They are our first and one of our favorite charitable causes because they truly define humanitarian aid, they are non-sectarian and treat anyone in need of healthcare regardless of their race, religion, or political affiliation. They have touched base in so many countries.
